 Self-assured enough to go head to head with the Notting Hill Carnival in London, Creamfields has long battled with Homelands for dance music festival supremacy. Where better to spend the August bank holiday weekend? If Homelands scores points for being the first dance festival of the summer, then Creamfields does for being the last, and everyone at the annual bash at the old disused Speke Airport looks as if they’re aware that they had better have fun quickly before the long winter nights draw in.  Cream may have closed their regular night at The Nation, but they are focusing on one-off events and plotting international expansion of which President Bush would be proud. Festivals are planned this year for the Czech Republic, Poland, Turkey and Argentina this year. The piece de resistance remains the English event in their spiritual home of Liverpool, and this year’s fifth event has all the makings of a titanic affair. |
