In his unlikely bid to rival Kylie and Tom Cruise as a gay icon, Ken Livingstone has pledged his support for the next installment of the wonderful Pride In The Park festival, an event as visually stunning as a lorryload of Russian supermodels. The gay and lesbian community have promised an extra special event to mark the first time the festival has been welcomed by the Royal Park authorities, and 60,000 people are expected to parade past Parliament and Downing St before converging on Hyde Park. ![]() Boorishness is at a minimum, even though the event has become a mixed celebration rather than an overtly gay political statement, but broad mindedness is an asset nonetheless. For pure flamboyance, colour and joie de vivre, its second to none; for sheer audacity and mind-boggling exhibitionism, its utterly peerless. |
